Correlation Does Not Imply Causation

An addendum to my earlier post, in which I took comfort in the kindness and generosity of a stranger:

Turns out, the universe is just as cold and disordered as we all feared. The guy at the garage didn’t change my key battery after all. Like humans everywhere and for all time, I discerned deliberate, even divine, intent in the fact that the key started working again. But it was just a fluke, because the damn thing is dead again today.

That Vietnamese guy–he really did save me from drowning though.
